Ferozepur police take lead in reducing 60% stubble burning incidents; AQI improves to 115

Ferozepur, November 16, 2024: The Ferozepur Police's persistent efforts under SSP Soumya Mishra, have led to a 66% drop in stubble burning incidents in 2024 compared to last year. The district recorded 955 cases, a significant decline from 2,818 in 2023, showcasing the impact of targeted awareness campaigns and strict enforcement.
This success is reflected in the district’s air quality, with the AQI at 115, categorized as "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups." This marks a notable improvement in pollution levels, particularly given the seasonal challenges posed by stubble burning
The police's strategy includes forming special teams for on-ground patrolling and immediate intervention in fire incidents, alongside honouring progressive farmers adopting sustainable practices. These efforts contribute to both reducing pollution and fostering environmentally friendly farming.
SSP said the police teams are actively patrolling rural areas, educating farmers on the harmful effects of burning paddy stubble, including soil degradation, toxic air pollution, and increased smoke-related accidents. Farmers are encouraged to adopt modern techniques for stubble management, with many pledging their support to the administration’s initiatives.
She said, as part of their strategy, the police respond promptly to incidents reported through their PSR system, extinguish fires, and take action against violators of the Supreme Court's directives. Cases are registered against those found guilty of stubble burning.
Also, on a positive note, progressive farmers employing alternative stubble management methods are being honoured with gifts and appreciation, setting an example for others. The Ferozepur Police, along with village committees, farmers' unions, and stakeholders like combine and baler operators, have organized several meetings to promote sustainable farming practices.
Collaboration with the Agriculture Department and district administration has further facilitated solutions, including access to machinery for stubble management. These concerted efforts have led to a significant decline in stubble-burning cases in 2024 compared to previous years. The number of fire incidents in 2022 was 4,019 and no case was registered, in 2023 noticed were 2,818 cases with the registration 0of 93 cases and in the current year 2024, there are only 955 cases while 722 cases have been registered against the individuals or farmers, which is almost 66 per cent less as compared to the previous year.
With steadfast commitment, the Ferozepur Police also continues to lead the way in combating stubble burning and promoting eco-friendly agricultural practices.
