Jalandhar Rural Police cracks cold-blooded murder case within 5 hours; main accused arrested
Scientific investigation leads to quick breakthrough

Jalandhar (Punjab), November 20, 2024: In a breakthrough,, Jalandhar Rural Police solved a murder case within five hours of receiving the complaint, leading to the arrest of the main accused.
The case involves the murder of a woman whose body was recovered from a pond in the village Atta.
The arrested accused has been identified as: Liaqat Ali alias Balzai s/o Muhammad Safi r/o Village Gara, PS Phillaur and his accomplice Abdul Gani s/o Muhammad Safi r/o Village Gara, PS Phillaur is nominated in the case and is yet to be arrested.
Speaking to the media, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that the investigation gathered momentum when technical surveillance and human intelligence networks were activated immediately after receiving a complaint from Liaquat Ali of village Ashahur about his wife Shakura, who had gone to Banga for medicine but didn't return home. Multiple teams were formed to work on different aspects of the investigation.
The police team that cracked the case was led by SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur Bath and DSP Phillaur Sarwan Singh Ball, PPS, along with SHO Phillaur Inspector Sanjeev Kapoor and the investigation team of Police Station Phillaur.Through systematic collection and analysis of evidence, the team pieced together the sequence of events leading to the crime.
The operation unfolded systematically as teams collected technical evidence, conducted neighborhood investigations, and analyzed call detail records. The breakthrough came when investigators identified suspicious movements in the area, leading them to the accused.
Upon sustained questioning, the accused confessed and led the police to village Atta pond where the body was recovered. The victim's clothes were also recovered and identified by family members.
The investigation revealed that the accused had meticulously planned to destroy evidence by breaking both his and the victim's mobile phones. A case FIR No. 309 dated 19.11.2024 has been registered under sections 103, 238 BNS at Police Station Phillaur against both accused.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused Liaqat Ali had developed illicit relations with the deceased Shakura. On the day of incident, he along with his brother Abdul Gani met the victim near the canal.
An altercation ensued during which Liaqat Ali strangled Shakura. The accused, with the help of his brother, then disposed of the body in the village pond to destroy evidence. The arrested accused will be produced in the local court and police remand will be sought to recover additional evidence and arrest the absconding accused. Several teams have been dispatched to possible hideouts of the co-accused.
"Technical and scientific investigation methods played a crucial role in solving this case," said SSP Khakh, adding that multiple teams are working to arrest the remaining accused.
