85,000 Passports held by Service Canada amid Canada Post strike disruption
Ottawa, November 21, 2024: Service Canada has stopped for a while the mailing of 85,000 passports due to the nationwide Canada Post strike. This strike had began on November 15 and has caused disruption on mail delivery.
Canada Post workers have disputes over wages, working conditions and some other issues which has resulted in this strike. Due to strike several millions of Canadians have been affected.
Due to strike mailing of passport has been stopped since November 8, 2024.
Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) Spokesperson Mila Roy disclosed that by holding residential mail several days in advance of a work stoppage, Service Canada has reduced the risk of having any passports held in Canada Post distribution centres. Canadians who submitted passport applications before the strike are facing delays. She further disclosed that Service Canada will not be able to process the application until mail service resumes.
