Ferozepur police nab two more snatchers with mobiles, drugs, ladies' purse
Ferozepur, December 15, 2024: In a major operation against crime and drug abuse, Ferozepur Police have arrested two more snatchers and recovered a stolen motorcycle, six ladies’ purses, and six mobile phones from their possession.
The accused, identified as Ranjit Singh alias Fateh Singh and Gurpreet Singh alias Gora, both residents of Zira, have a prior criminal record. Ranjit Singh was earlier booked under the Arms Act in 2022, while Gurpreet Singh was arrested under the NDPS Act in 2023 with the recovery of 10 grams of heroin.
During interrogation, Ranjit Singh admitted to being a drug addict. He revealed that, in collaboration with Gurpreet Singh, he began snatching to fund his addiction. The stolen cash was used to purchase drugs from Rinku Kumar alias Rinka. Acting on a tip-off, police also recovered 250 habit-forming drugs in loose condition, concealed on the bank of the river near the Mahian Wala Zira bypass.
This arrest follows a recent bust of another notorious gang in Ferozepur, where police recovered 10 stolen mobile phones. Authorities highlight that unemployment, poverty, and rampant drug addiction are the key drivers behind such crimes.
The case has been registered under Sections 304(2) and 3(5) of the BNS 2023, with additional charges under Section 317(2) BNS at Zira Police Station. Police operations have been intensified across the district to combat drug abuse and criminal activities, with a special focus on individuals with a history of offences.
Ferozepur Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate by reporting suspicious activities to help maintain law and order in the region.
