Language Dept hosts literary event on Gurdayal Singh Virk's story collection “Antarivi Vedna”

Ferozepur, December 21, 2024: Under the guidance of the Punjab Government and the Directorate of Languages, Punjab, the District Language Office, Ferozepur, organized a literary event at DDB DAV Centenary Public School. The event focused on the recently published story collection Antarivi Vedna by Engineer Gurdayal Singh Virk and was conducted under the leadership of District Language Officer Dr. Jagdeep Sandhu and Principal Nisha Deora.
The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and the musical rendition of "Dhan Likhari Nanaka." Dr. Jagdeep Sandhu welcomed the attendees, introduced Virk's collection, and extended gratitude to the school for its support.
Prominent poet and translator Prof. Jaspal Ghai, the chief guest, congratulated Virk and described the book as a significant addition to Punjabi literature. He emphasized the subjective nature of defining stories and praised Virk's narratives for their authenticity and connection to life experiences.
Renowned storyteller Gurmeet Gharialvi, presiding over the event, reflected on the nuances of storytelling, highlighting that great literature stems from lived experiences rather than mere imagination. He applauded Virk's use of conversational expressions and rural themes, which enrich the authenticity of his stories.
Presenting his research paper, Dr. Rameshwar Singh Katara noted how Virk skillfully portrays his life experiences through his characters, drawing parallels to real-life scenarios. LPU scholar Surinder Kamboj analyzed the stories within the context of globalization, appreciating their thematic depth and representation of rural life.
Poet Dr. Harish Grover highlighted the humanistic concerns and quest for collective well-being in Virk's stories, describing him as a promising voice in Punjabi literature. Writer Balwinder Panesar shed light on various facets of Virk's personality, while senior journalist Kuldeep Bhullar praised his literary prowess and dedication.
Addressing the gathering, Gurdayal Singh Virk expressed gratitude and shared insights into his creative process. The event featured engaging stage management by poet-thinker Sukhjinder, ensuring a seamless flow.
Notable attendees included Lal Singh Sulhani, retired judge Baldev Singh Bhullar, Dr. G.S. Dhillon, Mangat Bazidpuri, and other literary figures and educators. Principal Nisha Deoḍa thanked the guests and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to hosting meaningful literary initiatives.
The event concluded successfully with significant contributions from Research Officer Daljeet Singh, C.S.A. Raman Kumar, and the school staff.
