Farmer leader Dallewal’s health deteriorates as hunger strike reaches 47th day

Ferozepur/Khanauri, January 11, 2025: Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s hunger strike entered its 47th day at the Khanauri farmer protest site. Presenting Dallewal's detailed medical report, farmer leaders expressed grave concern over his worsening health condition. Farmer leaders warned that Dallewal’s condition is rapidly deteriorating.
The latest medical examination revealed alarming results- Ketone bodies: 6.53 (normal range: 0.02-0.27), Uric acid: 11.64 (normal range: 3.50-7.20), Bilirubin (direct): 0.69 (normal range: below 0.20), Total protein: Significantly lower than normal. Electrolytes: Sodium, potassium, and chloride levels are critically low, Liver & kidney panel (serum): 1.67 (normal: below 1.00).
Meanwhile, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have jointly issued a letter thanking all farmer leaders who visited the Khanauri site yesterday. They also urged leaders to intensify their support for the ongoing movement centred around the demand for an MSP Guarantee Law and 13 other key issues.
The letter included an earnest request for an immediate meeting at the Khanauri protest site, citing the critical health of Jagjit Singh Dallewal. “Every moment is precious given his fragile health. We are unable to leave the site and hope you will honour our request,” it read.
In a show of solidarity, farmers in Khammam, Telangana, observed a symbolic 12-hour hunger strike today, supporting Dallewal's cause. Tomorrow, a large contingent of farmers from Hisar, Haryana, is expected to join the Khanauri protest.
Farmers have been protesting demanding legal guarantees for MSP and other crucial reforms. The movement continues to garner widespread support from across the nation.
