Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, while chairing a meeting with the Commissioner Municipal Corporation and officials of the Pollution Department today, highlighted the potential for transformative change in the city's cleanliness.
Emphasizing the importance of collective action, she noted that complaints regarding garbage pile fires are being addressed through strict action against those responsible, paving the way for a cleaner, healthier environment.
In line with National Green Tribunal guidelines, she directed the Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gulpreet Singh to expedite the installation of CCTV cameras and methane gas detectors at Bhagtanwal Dump, facilitating proactive detection and prevention.
The Deputy Commissioner underscored the need for accelerated bio-remediation of waste to eliminate waste mountains, stressing that any negligence regarding city cleanliness would not be tolerated.
Commissioner Municipal Corporation Gulpreet Singh outlined initiatives to prevent fires at Bhagtanwala dump, including the construction of a submersible bore and installation of new pipes for immediate fire cessation.
He highlighted progress in door-to-door garbage collection, bio-remediation, and plantation around the dump site, aligning with National Green Tribunal instructions and marking a significant step towards a cleaner, greener city.
