Chandigarh, January 18, 2025: The challenges and opportunities land acquisition policies were discussed during the thought-provoking colloquium on "Land Acquisition in Punjab: Development and Livelihoods" organized by the Policy Advisory and Network for Joint Progress (PANJ) at the PL Anand Auditorium, Panjab University.
The event, which took place from 3 PM to 6 PM, brought together distinguished experts from various fields to discuss critical issues related to land acquisition and its socio-economic implications.
Prominent speakers included Mr. Suresh Kumar, former Chief Principal Secretary, Government of Punjab; Mr. M. S. Aujla, former Director of Town Planning, Government of Punjab; Prof. (Dr.) Navreet Kaur from the Department of Public Administration, Panjab University; and Prof. (Dr.) B. S. Ghuman, former Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala. Other notable participants were Mr. Ajaypal Singh Brar, President of Misl Satluj, and Advocate Pritam Singh Saini, Senior Additional Advocate General, Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The discussions centered on balancing development and livelihoods while addressing the challenges and opportunities of land acquisition policies.
The speakers emphasized the need for sustainable development, fair compensation, and transparency in the land acquisition process to safeguard the interests of affected communities.The event witnessed active participation from academics, policymakers, and students, sparking engaging debates and fostering ideas for future reforms.
