Massive protests against privatisation of power in UP, Chandigarh on Jan 23, 31

Chandigarh, January 20, 2025: National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees & Engineers (NCCOEEE) has decided to hold nationwide demonstrations and protest meetings at all state capitals and power utility headquarters against the privatization of electricity in Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh.
Shailendra Dubey Chairman All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) in a press release said that as per decision of NCCOEEE , Power Employees & Engineers will protest in the capitals of all the provinces of the country on January 23 against the pre-bidding conference for privatization in Uttar Pradesh and hold a press conference demanding cancellation of the privatization process.
Similarly, on 31st January, protests will be held at district and project headquarters in all the provinces of the country against the plan to take over Chandigarh's electricity system by a private company on 01 February.
V K Gupta said that the meeting of NCCOEEE held in New Delhi today was presided over by Mohan Sharma Secretary General All India Federation of Electricity Employees. Shailendra Dubey Chairman AIPEF, Prashant Choudhary Secretary General EEFI, Subhash Lamba Vice President EEFI, A K Jain, Satya Pal and Yash Pal Sharma of AIPEF, Com Sudip Datta of EEFI and others.
Dubey said that power employees , contract workers and engineers of Uttar Pradesh protested against privatization by wearing black bands throughout the day. Protests were held in all the districts/projects after lunch break or office hours.
The struggle committee said that the pre-bidding conference for appointing a transaction consultant for the privatization of Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam should be canceled immediately, otherwise, there is huge anger among the electricity employees.
Electricity workers will strongly protest against the pre-bidding conference across the State.
