Ferozepur kicks off Basant Festival with Kite-Flying Knockout Competitions: A Call to “Say No to Chinese Thread”

Ferozepur, January 22, 2025: The Basant Festival began on a high note today with the kickoff of kite-flying knockout competitions at Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University grounds. The event saw enthusiastic participation from youngsters and schoolchildren, adding a vibrant energy to the celebrations.
Deputy Commissioner Dipshikha Sharma visited the festival on its inaugural day to review the arrangements and encourage participants. She highlighted that the Punjab Government is organizing the state-level Basant Panchami Kite Festival on January 27 and 28, 2025. The knockout rounds have already commenced, and on-the-spot registration is available for those interested in competing.
The Deputy Commissioner urged residents to actively participate in the festival and disclosed that the final competitions would be held on January 27. She also assured that the event would feature handcraft stalls, amusement rides for children, food stalls, cultural programs, and live performances by renowned singers, promising entertainment for all.
Emphasizing safety, she strictly prohibited the use of Chinese thread (China Dor) for kite flying, warning against its usage due to its hazardous nature. "Everyone must adhere to this rule to ensure the safety of participants and the public," she added.
ADC)G) Dr Nidhi Kumud Bambha convened a crucial meeting with officials from various departments and representatives of social organizations to ensure the event’s success. She provided necessary directives and reinforced the ban on Chinese thread to maintain a safe and joyful atmosphere.
Other notable attendees included SDM Zira Gurmeet Singh, Deputy DEO Dr Satinder Singh, Secretary of Red Cross Ashok Behl, along with various departmental officers and NGO members.
