Haryana CM Saini attends 144th birth anniversary celebrations of Deenbandhu Sir Chhotu Ram

Chandigarh, January 31, 2025 – Haryana Chief Minister Sh Nayab Singh Saini said that the Haryana Government is committed to making the state a model in terms of development and public welfare by following the principles of Deenbandhu Sir Chhotu Ram.
Acknowledging the legacy of Rahbar-e-Azam Choudhary Chhotu Ram, he said that the leader dedicated his life to the welfare of farmers, laborers, and the poor.
His efforts were focused on advocating for the interests of farmers, laborers, and petty shopkeepers.The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering as the chief guest on the 144th birth anniversary of Rahbar-e-Azam Choudhary Chhotu Ram in Rohtak on Friday.
He paid floral tributes to Choudhary Chhotu Ram by laying flowers at his memorial located in the Jat Shikshan Sansthan campus. Education Minister Sh Mahipal Dhanda also paid his respects to Sir Chhotu Ram.
Nayab Singh Saini announced a discretionary grant of Rs. 31 lakh to the Jat Shikshan Sansthan. Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda also announced Rs. 21 lakh grant to the institution.
Regarding the institution’s demands, the Chief Minister said that once the institution deposits the matching grant as per the rules for the hostel at Maharani Kishori Mahila Mahavidyalaya, the government will allocate Rs. 10 crore for the project.
He also assured that the feasibility of the other demands raised by the institution would be examined. The Chief Minister further said that the life of Choudhary Chhotu Ram serves as a message that with determination and hard work, no challenge is insurmountable.
He described Sir Chhotu Ram as a multi-talented, thoughtful, wise, and principled individual who dedicated his life to the upliftment and dignity of the poor, Scheduled Castes, and other marginalized communities. He was affectionately known as Deenbandhu, due to his unwavering support for the underprivileged.
Nayab Singh Saini highlighted that Chaudhary Chhotu Ram had launched the Jat Gazette newspaper to voice the concerns of farmers. He also introduced the Agricultural Produce Market Act to ensure fair prices for crops, helping farmers secure better economic outcomes.
Under his leadership, farmers were freed from debts, and their mortgaged lands were returned to them. Chaudhary Chhotu Ram placed a strong emphasis on the expansion of irrigation facilities, recognizing their importance for agricultural growth.
He also played a pivotal role in the approval of the Bhakra Dam project, making a significant contribution to its realization.
The government is working dedicatedly for agricultural development and the welfare of farmers
The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi has identified farmers, the poor, women, and youth as the four pillars of a developed India.
He said that the state government is working diligently to promote agricultural development and the welfare of farmers, following the farmer- and laborer-friendly policies of Chaudhary Chhotu Ram. Recently, the state government took a significant step in restoring trust between tenant farmers and landowners by implementing the Agricultural Land Lease Act, granting ownership rights to tenants.
The government is committed to providing all necessary support, from crop preparation to market sales. In addition, a subsidy of Rs 122 crore has been allocated to farmers for purchasing various agricultural equipment to aid in stubble management.
He said that the government has decided to procure 100% of crops in the state at the minimum support price (MSP), ensuring that farmers receive payments within 72 hours of the transaction.
To date, approximately Rs 1,25,000 crore has been deposited into the accounts of around 12 lakh farmers in the state.
In response to reduced rainfall during the Kharif season, the government has provided assistance of Rs 2000 per acre to help reduce farmers' costs, amounting to Rs 1345 crore in total aid.
He highlighted the financial support farmers are receiving through the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, under which Rs 6000 annually is provided to farmers to help purchase agricultural inputs.
So far, Rs 342 crore has been disbursed to farmers in the state across 18 installments, with a total of Rs 6203 crore provided nationwide.
The Chief Minister encouraged farmers to adopt horticultural crops and said that Maharana Pratap Horticulture University is being set up in Uchani, Karnal district, at an investment of Rs 700 crore across 65 acres. He called on parents to take a pledge to protect their children from drug addiction, emphasizing the need for community involvement in combating this social issue.
He mentioned that the government has established a college every 20 km to ensure easy access to education.
Additionally, a decision has been made to provide free education to the daughters of families with an annual income of less than Rs. 1.80 lakh in the state.To restore the youth's trust in the government, he highlighted that 1.71 lakh young individuals have been employed based on merit.
As per the Sankalp Patra, the government plans to provide two lakh jobs to the youth without any kharchi-parchi.
The Chief Minister also took the opportunity to honor the talented players of Jat Shikshan Sanstha who have excelled in various fields. He felicitated ArjunaAwardee Sarita Mor, Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Pooja Sihag, NSS state-level awardee Jatin Malik, and Anshu Nandal for their outstanding achievements.
New education policy will be implemented in the state in 2025, new curriculum started in universities – Mahipal Dhanda
Education Minister Sh Mahipal Dhanda praised Choudhary Chhotu Ram for his unwavering commitment to creating an exploitation-free society and his vocal opposition to injustice.He said that Choudhary Chhotu Ram dedicated his life to the welfare of the poor, backward classes, Dalits, and exploited communities.
Dhanda highlighted that the public has entrusted the country’s leadership to a strong political vision, and under the leadership of Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi, India’s pride on the global stage has grown.
He said that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, despite being born into a poor family, is working tirelessly for the upliftment of the underprivileged. The Chief Minister’s dream, he added, is to ensure that no child is deprived of education due to financial constraints.
The government is committed to providing quality education to poor children in partnership with state educational institutions. Additionally, he said that the state government will implement the new education policy by 2025 and has already begun introducing a new curriculum in the state’s universities.
