Punjab State Food Commission striving to provide quality food to the people - Chairman Bal Mukand Sharma

Moga (Punjab), February 5, 2025: The Punjab State Food Commission is working tirelessly to provide quality food to the people of the state. Chairman Bal Mukund Sharma emphasized the importance of implementing the Food Security Act correctly to ensure healthy food for future generations.
He stressed that 90% of diseases are caused by consuming low-quality food, and therefore, it is crucial to provide nutritious food to children.
While reviewing the implementation of the National Food Security Act, 2013 in the district, Chairman Bal Mukand Sharma instructed officials to ensure clean drinking water is available in all schools and Anganwadi.
He directed the officials to use Zila Parishad tied funds if necessary to provide clean drinking water.He also emphasized the importance of nutritious food for pregnant and breastfeeding women, stating that it is essential to prevent anemia in these women.
The Chairman praised the Poshan Vatika (nutritious gardens) being developed in Moga district, where schools are cultivating fruits and vegetables to provide nutritious food to children. He announced plans to implement this project statewide, ensuring that all schools have nutritious gardens.
Sharma also instructed officials to display the commission's toll-free number 9876764545 in all schools and anganwadis to allow people to report complaints about food quality.
Sharma also stressed the importance of organic farming, stating that excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers can harm human health.He instructed officials to educate farmers about the benefits of organic farming and to promote this practice in the state.
Overall, the Punjab State Food Commission is working to ensure that the people of the state have access to quality, nutritious food. With its focus on implementing the Food Security Act, promoting organic farming, and providing clean drinking water, the commission is taking significant steps towards improving the health and well-being of the people of Punjab.
