CM Bhagwant Mann Condemns US Deportation, Slams Haryana Govt’s Treatment of Returnees
Chandigarh, February 6, 2025:
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strongly condemned the deportation of Indian migrants from the United States, calling it a matter of national shame. Taking to X, he criticized the US authorities for sending back Indian citizens in shackles and also lashed out at the Haryana government for its handling of the returnees.
"What the US has done is deeply regrettable. Sending our citizens back in handcuffs and shackles is a disgrace for our nation," Mann said. He further accused the Haryana government of mistreating the deportees by transporting them in police prisoner vans instead of offering them support. "Instead of soothing the wounds of these mentally and financially broken individuals, Modi ji’s Haryana government has added insult to injury by taking them away in police vans meant for prisoners," he added.
The remarks come amid growing criticism of the deportations, with opposition leaders questioning both the US and Indian governments over the treatment of the returnees.
