A meeting of the District Water and Sanitation Mission was convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, Sakshi Sawhney, to review progress on Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (Phase-2) and water supply schemes in the district on wednesday.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed officials to complete the ODF Plus model target by March 31, 2025, and to expedite ongoing village projects. She emphasized the need to arrange funds for 60 closed community water purification plants from the 15th Finance Commission.
The Deputy Commissioner also approved Rs 35 crore for water supply schemes and directed officials to monitor ongoing projects daily. She instructed Block Development and Panchayat Officers to personally oversee projects and submit daily reports, emphasizing zero tolerance for laxity in development works.
Nitin Kalia, Executive Engineer Water Supply and Sanitation, Division No. 1, Amritsar, informed that the Annual Implementation Plan 2025-26 includes Rs. 18.45 lakh for 123 individual toilets, Rs. 51 lakh for 17 shared toilets, Rs. 3429.28 lakh for liquid waste management, and Rs. 96 lakh for 6 plastic waste management projects.
The District Water and Sanitation Mission approved works under Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) and water supply schemes. The Deputy Commissioner suggested collaborating with self-help groups, volunteers, and NGOs to raise awareness about Swachh Bharat Mission initiatives.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Paramjit Kaur, Block Development and Panchayat Officer Sadeep Malhotra, and other officials attended the meeting.
