Canada, February 9, 2025:Dr. Gulzar Singh Cheema, Former Minister and Member of Legislative Assembly, BC, bereaved as mother Ajit Kaur Cheema passed away on February 1.
Her Funenral will be held at 1 pm at Riverside Funeral Home, Delta , BC and Antim Ardaas will be held on February 11 at Nanak Sar Gurdwara at 3:00 PM, 18691 Westminster Hwy, Richmond, BC

Obituary for Ajit Kaur Cheema
Ajit Kaur Cheema, who departed this world on February 1, 2025, at the age of 95.Ajit Kaur was born on April 1, 1930, in Benagarh, Tehsil Ranbir Singh Pura, District of Jammu, to Gurdial Singh Aulakh and Iqbal Kaur Aulakh.
She was the eldest child in her family and came from the distinguished Aulakh family, who have been settled in their village for over 140 years.
Her family includes generations of farmers, horticulturists, bureaucrats, army officials, and politicians who have contributed greatly to their community before and after the Partition of India.The Cheema family, into which she was married, migrated from the district of Sialkot (Sehjoke Cheema) and, after Partition, settled in Gurdaspur.
She was engaged before the Partition of India and married after the partition to the late Ajinder Singh Cheema, son of Phoola Singh Cheema and Ragbhir Kaur Cheema. Together, they built a life filled with love, wisdom, and dedication to family.
Ajit Kaur was the proud mother of four children:
- Dilbagh Singh Cheema and his wife Paramjeet Cheema
- Dr. Gulzar Cheema and his wife Harinderjit Cheema
- Gurlal Cheema and his wife Gurpreet Cheema
- Harpreet Kaur Bath, wife of the late Gurpreet Singh Bath
She was blessed with five grandsons and three granddaughters, along with six great-grandchildren (five boys and one girl), all of whom will forever cherish her memory and the values she instilled in them.
Ajit Kaur came from a large and loving family.
She was one of eight siblings, the eldest among them, and is survived by one sister, while her five brothers and one sister predeceased her.
She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and first cousins, including cousin brothers and sisters, all of whom were touched by her love and guidance.A woman of remarkable strength and business acumen, Ajit Kaur possessed multiple entrepreneurial skills that she used to support and uplift her family.
She was a guiding force, known for her wisdom, generosity, and unwavering determination.Her legacy of love, resilience, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
