Farmers' Unions announce key decisions at Shambhu Morcha: Unity Meeting on Feb 12, Talks with Centre on Feb 14, Protest plans ahead
Ferozepur(Shambhu Border), February 10, 2025: Outlining the upcoming action plans of the agitating farmer unions, Sarwan Singh Pandher farmer leader announced that a crucial unity meeting has been scheduled for February 12 at Chandigarh’s Kisan Bhawan, where a delegation of leaders from the "Delhi Andolan 2" movement will participate. He emphasised that while they strongly support farmer unity, the exact form of this alliance will be determined in the meeting. He urged all unions to prioritise public interests when discussing unity strategies.
Meeting with the Centre on February 14
On February 14, farmer leaders will meet representatives from the Central and Punjab governments in Chandigarh. Pandher noted that while the government's stance on the issue has been evident in recent budget allocations, the unions remain open to dialogue.
Protest Anniversary & Delhi March on February 25
On February 13, as the protest at Shambhu Border marks its first anniversary, farmer and labour unions from across India will gather at the site in large numbers, including leaders from Punjab, Haryana, and North India. If no concrete solution emerges from the February 14 meeting, a farmers’ march on foot from Shambhu Border to Delhi will commence on February 25.
Athlete to Run 302 Km in Support of Farmers' Demands
Khanna-based athlete coach Dilpreet Singh has pledged to run 302 kilometres to Parliament in support of the "Delhi Andolan 2" demands. The protesting unions praised his commitment.
Criticism of Government Over Deportation Issue
Pandher also criticized the Indian government’s silence on the deportation of Indian citizens from the U.S., calling it a national disgrace. He demanded financial support and a rehabilitation plan for affected youth.
Condemnation of False Cases Against Farmers
The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha Bharat condemned the false cases under Section 307 against farmer leaders for peacefully protesting during PM Modi’s election campaign visit on February 5, 2022. The unions demanded the immediate withdrawal of these fabricated charges.
Unwavering Commitment to the Protest
Pandher reiterated that the government’s attempts to suppress the farmers’ movement would not succeed, and the protest would continue until the demands were met.
Concern Over Jagjit Singh Dallewal's Health
The unions expressed deep concern over the health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a fast-unto-death since November 26, 2024, demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and other farmer-related issues. As of January 28, 2025, Dallewal's fast had entered its 64th day, and he had lost approximately 20 kilograms, reducing his weight to 66.4 kg. Due to his deteriorating health, medical aid had been stopped for six days as doctors were unable to find veins for intravenous support.
