Chandigarh, February 21, 2025: Fearing that he might lose Lok Sabha membership due to his prolonged absence, Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking directions to the Centre, and Punjab Government to allow him to attend parliamentary proceedings.
Amritpal is currently lodged in Dibrugarh jail in Assam.
A petition has been filed in the High Court. Central government lawyer Dheeraj Jain said that while hearing the petition, Punjab Haryana High Court has ordered us to inform the High Court on February 25 whether the Lok Sabha committee has been constituted to cancel the membership and if it has been constituted, then what decision has been taken.
MP Amritpal in his petition stated that due to his absence from the Lok Sabha proceedings, his parliamentary membership is in danger. The MP has demanded from the High Court that he be allowed to participate in the Lok Sabha proceedings. If he does not participate in the proceedings within 60 days, his membership will be cancelled. There are still 6 days left. An application has also been filed in the Lok Sabha on behalf of Amritpal.
