Indian Railways Operates Special Trains for Kumbh Mela to Ensure Smooth Travel for Pilgrims
Over 48,500 Passengers Travel to Kumbh; Special Trains from Ferozepur and Katra on February 22-23
Ferozepur, February 21, 2025: To facilitate smooth travel for pilgrims attending the Kumbh Mela, Indian Railways has been running Kumbh Special trains alongside regular services since January 13, 2025. The Ferozepur division of Northern Railway has operated 14 special trains for this purpose, ensuring convenient transportation for passengers.
The final Kumbh Special trains from Ferozepur Cantonment Railway Station and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station will depart on February 22 and 23, respectively. So far, these special trains have transported approximately 8,100 passengers, with around 200 from Ferozepur Cantonment, 2,800 from Amritsar, and 5,100 from Katra. Additionally, around 48,500 passengers have traveled to Kumbh Mela via regular trains.
To accommodate increased demand, additional coaches were attached to trains 18310, 18102, and 22432, allowing over 300 extra passengers to travel comfortably.
Senior railway officials are closely monitoring operations to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for passengers. Station authorities have been instructed to manage crowd control efficiently and facilitate smooth boarding. Display boards and public announcement systems at originating and intermediary stations continuously update passengers with relevant travel information.
