CBSE to Introduce Biannual Class 10 Board Exams- Seeks public feedback until March 9, 2025

New Delhi, February 25, 2025: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced plans to conduct Class 10 board examinations twice annually, starting from the 2026 academic session. This initiative aims to reduce exam-related stress and provide students with multiple opportunities to perform their best.
Proposed Examination Schedule
According to the draft, the first phase of the exams is slated from February 17 to March 6, followed by the second phase from May 5 to 20. This schedule offers students flexibility in choosing their preferred examination period.
Key Features of the Proposed Scheme

Commencement Dates: Class 10 and Class 12 examinations will begin on the first Tuesday after February 15 each year.

Projected Participation: In 2026, approximately 26.6 lakh students are expected to appear for Class 10 exams, and about 20 lakh for Class 12.

Syllabus Coverage: Both examinations will encompass the full current syllabus and prescribed textbooks.

Subject Grouping:
- Core subjects: Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Hindi, and English.
- Group 1: Regional and foreign languages.
- Group 2: Remaining elective subjects.

Examination Scheduling:
- Core subjects will have fixed examination days, consistent with current practices.
- Regional and foreign languages will be examined collectively on a single day.
- Elective subjects in Group 2 will have exams conducted two to three times, based on student choices, across multiple days.
Draft Norms and Public Consultation
The board has approved draft norms for the biannual examination system, which will be available for public feedback until March 9, 2025. Stakeholders are encouraged to review the proposed changes and submit their suggestions before the policy is finalized.
The final policy will be formulated after considering feedback from various stakeholders, ensuring that the new system addresses the diverse needs of the student community.
