Chandigarh, March 20, 2025:
The family of the Army officer, who was allegedly thrashed by Patiala police officers, has expressed their disagreement with the magisterial probe. They have demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter, citing concerns over impartiality and transparency in the investigation.
To press their demand, the victim's family met with the Punjab Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, urging for a CBI investigation to ensure that justice is served. The family fears that the magisterial inquiry may not deliver the required level of fairness, given the involvement of police officers in the incident.
The case has already sparked outrage, with serious allegations against Patiala police officers for their brutal treatment of the Army officer and his son. The family has also threatened to stage a peaceful protest outside the Patiala Deputy Commissioner’s office on the 22nd if their demand for a CBI probe is not met.
Following the meeting with the Governor, the family informed the media that the Governor assured them that strict action would be taken against the culprits and that an impartial investigation would be conducted into the matter.
The officer's relative, Gurtej Singh Dhillon, has made serious allegations against the Punjab Police in this case. He stated that the police's actions are reminiscent of the 1985 period of terrorism when the police would arrest innocent people and torture them. Dhillon demanded a CBI inquiry, stating that the police are trying to protect their own officers, and only an impartial investigation can bring the truth to light.
The officer's wife, Jaswinder Kaur, has called for strict action against 12 police personnel involved in the incident, including an inspector, constables, and additional constables. She alleges that the police department is attempting to shield certain officers, although one of the police officials involved in the incident has apologized.
The victimized family has announced that if they do not receive justice, they will stage a peaceful protest outside the Patiala Deputy Commissioner’s office at 10 AM on the 22nd of this month.
The family stated that their struggle will continue until the culprits are punished according to the law.
