Persistent Security Breach: Mobiles & other banned items seized from Ferozepur Jail
Ferozepur, March 26, 2025: Authorities at Ferozepur jail recovered six mobile phones, ten bundles of ‘bidis’, 241 sachets of ‘zarda’ (chewing tobacco), and a broken headphone during a routine inspection.
With this latest recovery, the total number of mobile phones seized in March alone has reached 39. Earlier, in January and February, 170 mobile phones were confiscated, bringing the total number of mobile seizures in 2025 to 209 within the first three months. In comparison, 510 mobile phones were recovered throughout 2024.
Mobile phones remain the most sought-after contraband inside the jail, allowing inmates to stay connected with the outside world for both personal and illegal activities. Despite a three-layer security system, the smuggling of mobile devices into the prison continues unabated, and the purpose of keeping the criminals behind bars is lost.
The case has been registered against unidentified persons under the Prisons Act at City Police Station, and Investigating Officer Gurdev Singh is probing the matter.
