Chandigarh, March 29, 2025: Cybercrime in the name of online trading and investment continues to rise, with a recent case exposing a major scam in Chandigarh. A resident, Kanav Khanna (Sector 21), was duped of ₹1.08 crore after being promised high returns on investments.
Khanna filed a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station, Sector 17, stating that an unidentified fraudster convinced him to invest in online trading, gradually swindling his money.Following the complaint, police registered a case under multiple sections of the BNS and IT Act.
Over 500 online fraud cases have been reported in Chandigarh in the past year, amounting to financial losses worth crores. According to cyber police, fraudsters often use fake trading apps, foreign investment schemes, and bogus stock market promises to lure victims.
With cybercrime cases rising in Chandigarh, authorities urge residents to stay cautious and avoid falling prey to online scams.
