Across Borders: Pakistan Foundation remembers Dulla Bhatti on 426th Death Anniversary
Ferozepur/Lahore, March 26, 2025: The Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, Pakistan, paid homage to the legendary Punjabi folk hero, Dulla Bhatti, on his 426th death anniversary. Chairman Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, along with Senior Vice Chairman Malik Ehtisham Al Hasan, Central Secretary General Shehbaz Rashid Qureshi, and Additional Secretary Dr. Shahid Naseer, visited his grave at Miani Sahib Cemetery and offered floral tributes.
Rai Abdullah Khan Bhatti, widely known as Dulla Bhatti, led a revolt against Mughal rule during Emperor Akbar’s reign. Although absent from recorded history, his legacy lives on through Punjabi folk songs and oral traditions.
Qureshi said, "Dulla Bhatti is still alive in history. His martyrdom is commemorated worldwide today. "Dulla Bhatti’s courage and defiance make him a timeless icon. The Lohri festival, which is also celebrated across the world, is a tribute to his values and legacy. He is remembered for rescuing young girls from exploitation and arranging their marriages. Dulla Bhatti remains a symbol of resistance and bravery. Despite his execution on March 26, 1589, at Milad Chowk, Delhi Darwaza in Lahore, his legend continues to inspire.
Expressing concern over the state of Miani Sahib Cemetery, he urged the government to take action against drug peddlers operating there. He also demanded that a grand tomb be built in Dulla Bhatti’s honor, that his story be included in the educational curriculum, and that commemorative stamps and coins be issued to recognize him as a national hero.
The Foundation reiterated its demand for official recognition and preservation of Dulla Bhatti’s contributions, ensuring that future generations continue to draw inspiration from his fearless spirit.
