Chandigarh, April 3, 2025 – The Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has approved the provisions of the Mukhya Mantri Teerth Yatra Scheme, which will enable senior citizens to embark on government-sponsored pilgrimages.
Under this initiative, the Punjab government will cover the entire cost of the pilgrimage, including air-conditioned travel, comfortable accommodation, and meals. To make the experience memorable, travelers will also receive special souvenirs from the government.
The scheme is open to all citizens aged 50 and above, regardless of caste, religion, income, or region, ensuring that both urban and rural residents of Punjab can benefit. The objective is to highlight Punjab’s rich spiritual, religious, and cultural heritage by facilitating visits to major religious sites.
During the journey, spiritual discourses and devotional singing (satsang and kirtan) will be arranged, and at the end of the trip, prasad will be distributed among travelers.
The Punjab government has allocated a ₹100 crore budget for this scheme, with provisions for further increase if needed. Registrations will commence in the last week of April, and the first yatra is set to begin in May.
