Equipping Punjab Police with State-of-the-Art Infrastructure to Fight Crime: Says CM
Flags off 139 new vehicles for police stations across the state
Vows to eliminate drugs from Punjab
Says BSF report shows a decline in drug smuggling across the border
Phillaur (Jalandhar), April 3, 2025:
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced that the state government is upgrading Punjab Police with modern infrastructure and advanced technology to help it maintain law and order effectively.
Speaking at an event after flagging off 139 new vehicles for police stations across Punjab, the Chief Minister said that with this move, Station House Officers (SHOs) at 454 police stations have received new vehicles. Unlike before, when only senior officers received new vehicles, this initiative ensures that those working at the grassroots level get the necessary resources. He said SHOs are the real face of Punjab Police as they directly connect with people and have a key role in maintaining law and order.
The Chief Minister noted that, as a border state, Punjab faces threats from forces trying to disturb peace, but the Punjab Police has always countered such attempts. To tackle emerging challenges, he emphasized that the police force must be upgraded with advanced tools in investigation, science, and technology. He expressed confidence that Punjab Police will continue its legacy of serving people with professionalism.
He highlighted that 70% of drugs are smuggled into Punjab from Pakistan using drones. To stop this, the state government has collaborated with BSF to deploy anti-drone technology. Due to these efforts, drug smuggling has decreased significantly, with BSF reports confirming a drop in cross-border drug consignments.
The Chief Minister also announced that Punjab will recruit 1,800 constables and 300 sub-inspectors every year to address the shortage of police personnel. He mentioned that around 2.5 lakh candidates apply for these 2,100 posts annually, motivating youth to focus on academics and physical fitness. He said this initiative is helping channel their energy in a positive direction while steering them away from drugs.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating drugs from Punjab. He stated that the supply chain has been cut off, and major drug traffickers have been arrested. For the first time, the government is seizing and demolishing properties of drug smugglers to set an example.
He also shared that in 36 months, the government has provided nearly 55,000 jobs to youth. He expressed pride that all jobs were given based on merit, without corruption or nepotism. He hoped that these young professionals would contribute to Punjab’s socio-economic growth.

The Chief Minister stressed that his government follows a zero-tolerance policy against corruption. He warned that no corrupt officer will be spared, and strict action will be taken against them. He said the government is working to improve transparency and ensure efficient citizen services at people’s doorsteps.
He also introduced a mentorship program where senior IAS and IPS officers will guide students in government schools across Punjab. These officers will adopt schools and support students through interactions with teachers and students, aiming to inspire them to join prestigious services. He said this initiative will help students achieve success in various fields.
Earlier, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav welcomed the Chief Minister and other dignitaries at the event.
