Students mark World Heritage Day with inspiring visit to historic Ferozepur Fort-Saragarhi Memorial
Ferozepur, April 17, 2025: In observance of World Heritage Day, Vivekanand World School, Ferozepur, organised a special educational trip for its sixth-grade students. The trip focused on the historic Ferozepur Fort. The visit also included the Saragarhi Gurudwara Memorial and the local Heritage Museum, offering a comprehensive glimpse into the region’s rich legacy.
Sharing details of the initiative, School Chairman Dr. Gaurav Sagar Bhaskar said that the visit aimed to deepen students’ understanding of India's cultural and military heritage. “Ferozepur Fort stands as a remarkable symbol of Indian history, representing Punjab’s martial spirit and its close ties to the freedom struggle. The fort’s robust architecture and historical significance offered students an insightful learning experience,” he noted.
School Director Dr. S.N. Rudra emphasised that the primary objective of the trip was to connect students with India’s heritage, instil patriotic values, and provide a living experience of history. During the tour, students explored old fort structures, underground tunnels, and military artefacts, gaining a deeper understanding of their historical relevance.
A key highlight of the trip was the Saragarhi Gurudwara Memorial, dedicated to the legendary 1897 battle and the bravery of 21 Sikh soldiers. Students learned about their courage and sacrifice, which left a lasting impression. This was followed by a visit to the local heritage museum, where students observed historical weapons, photographs, and documents showcasing Ferozepur's vibrant legacy.
The Gurudwara, Fort, and Museum together served as powerful educational touchpoints, helping students connect with history, architecture, culture, and patriotism. Teachers also guided students on the contemporary relevance of these sites and the enduring values they represent.
The educational excursion proved to be an unforgettable experience for the students, fostering pride in their heritage and offering them a closer look at India’s historical journey.
