Timely action averts major mishap, saves standing crop from spreading fire
Ferozepur, April 18, 2025: A major fire mishap was averted today in Ferozepur district due to the swift action of the district administration during a sudden dust storm in the afternoon. As strong winds blew across the region, a fire broke out in 1.5 acres of wheat stubble near a standing crop in village Sodhi Wala.
Providing details, SDM Zira, Gurmeet Singh, informed that the fire was reported immediately, and a fire brigade was rushed to the spot. Thanks to the prompt response, the fire was brought under control before it could spread to the nearby standing wheat crop, thus preventing significant damage.
He further added that due to strong winds, the fire spread rapidly, and had it not been for the timely intervention, more area could have been affected. The quick efforts of the fire brigade saved both the crop and the surrounding area from further loss.
SDM Gurmeet Singh also appealed to farmers not to burn wheat stubble after harvesting. Instead, they should adopt the agricultural practices recommended by the agriculture department, such as incorporating the stubble into the soil using suitable machines. This helps in preventing environmental pollution and reduces the risk of fire incidents, while also maintaining soil fertility.
