Vancouver Street Festival Tragedy: 30-year-old man arrested after deadly crash

Vancouver (BC), April 27, 2025: Vancouver’s interim police chief confirmed today that a 30-year-old man has been arrested after a vehicle drove into a street festival organized by the city’s Filipino community, resulting in the deaths of several people.
Steve Rai informed that the lone man was apprehended by bystanders before being taken into police custody.
The devastating incident occurred during the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party near East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street. Authorities stated that multiple people were also injured in the crash.
Police emphasized that the driver remained at the scene and that this was not a hit-and-run. The suspect is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
The Vancouver Police Department shared on X:
"A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured after a driver drove into a crowd at a street festival... The driver is in custody. We will provide more information as the investigation unfolds."
