Drone attack victim from Ferozepur succumbs to injuries; first civilian fatality in Punjab linked to cross-border incursion
Ferozepur, May 13, 2025: Sukhwinder Kaur, one of the victims injured in the May 9 drone crash at Khai Pheme Ki village in Ferozepur, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at Dayanand Medical College in Ludhiana. She had sustained 80% burn injuries and was in critical condition since the incident. Her death marks the first civilian fatality in Punjab directly linked to a Pakistani drone incursion.
On May 9, 2025, Khai Pheme Ki village made headlines when debris from a Pakistani drone, neutralized by the Indian Army’s air defense system, crashed into a house, injuring three family members—Lakhwinder Singh, his wife Sukhwinder Kaur, and his brother Monu Singh. The incident occurred between 8:15 PM and 9:00 PM, sparking a fire that caused significant property damage, including the destruction of a vehicle. Sukhwinder Kaur suffered severe burns (80%) and was reported to be in critical condition, while Lakhwinder had 60% burns. The family was initially treated at a private hospital in Ferozepur and later shifted to Dayanand Medical College in Ludhiana. This was the first reported instance in Punjab of direct injuries from a drone attack amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions.
The drone attack was part of a broader wave of Pakistani drone incursions on May 7–8, 2025, targeting 26 locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. These followed India’s Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which killed 26 people.
