New Delhi, May 13, 2025:Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, Ravneet Singh Bittu, has directly held Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Delhi leadership of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) responsible for the hooch tragedy in Majitha (Amritsar) that claimed 16 lives.
Calling the incident a result of political negligence and corruption, Bittu alleged that Punjab is now falling victim to AAP’s “liquor scam model”, which he claims has already damaged Delhi.
“After ruining Delhi with a liquor scam, AAP’s top leadership is now using Punjab as an experimental ground for profit,” said Bittu. This is the second such tragedy, following a similar case in Sangrur, Mann’s home district.
Criticizing the state's anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian De Virudh’, Bittu claimed crores have been spent with no effective results. He demanded action beyond the suspension of lower-rank officers, calling for accountability from senior police and civil officials, and warned that their inaction implies CM Mann’s direct complicity.
Bittu's key demands include:
- ₹25 lakh compensation for each victim’s family
- Government jobs for one family member of each deceased
- A time-bound judicial inquiry by a sitting or retired High Court judge
He further slammed the Mann government’s approach of “bulldozer justice”, accusing it of targeting the poor while protecting major drug lords under political cover.
Questioning Mann’s promise to eliminate drugs by May 2025, Bittu said, “There is no moral integrity in this leadership. The CM must take full responsibility and resign immediately.”
The hooch tragedy has sparked statewide outrage, intensifying demands for a transparent and high-level investigation.
