Phagwara: One-Time Settlement Policy 2025 for property tax relief launched

Phagwara (Punjab), May 21, 2025: In a significant move aimed at easing the financial burden on property owners, the Punjab Government has introduced the 'One-Time Settlement Policy 2025' under the Punjab Municipal Act, 1911 and the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976.
The initiative was announced by Dr. Akshita Gupta, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Phagwara, during a press conference today.
As per the notification issued by the Local Government Department, property owners with pending or partially paid house/property taxes can now avail themselves of major waivers under the following terms:
- Full Exemption Till July 31, 2025:
- Taxpayers paying their original outstanding tax amount in full by July 31 will receive a 100% waiver on penalty and interest.
- Partial Exemption Till October 31, 2025:
- If the payment is made between August 1 and October 31, a 50% waiver on penalty and interest will be granted.
- No Exemption Post October 31, 2025:
- After this date, full penalty and interest will be applicable as per prevailing laws.
Dr. Akshita Gupta emphasized that this initiative is designed to assist both the taxpayers and local bodies by facilitating revenue recovery while giving defaulters a fair opportunity to clear their dues without heavy penalties.
Mayor Rampal Uppal also lauded the move, describing it as a pro-public decision by the Aam Aadmi Party.
