Amritsar (Punjab), May 24, 2025 – Punjab Cabinet Minister for NRI Affairs Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal revealed today that three of the five Punjabi youths recently rescued from captivity in Colombia have again escaped, reportedly after contacting their agents.
Speaking in Ajnala, Dhaliwal said that following the viral video showing the youth in distress, the Punjab government, in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, secured their release through the Indian Embassy in Colombia.
The embassy had placed them in a hostel for safety while arranging their return to India.
However, Karandeep Singh, Gurnam Singh, and Ramandeep Singh left the hostel without informing authorities, allegedly after speaking with the same agent responsible for their initial trafficking. The remaining two youths have agreed to return to Punjab.
Dhaliwal urged young people and parents in Punjab to avoid using illegal and dangerous routes to go abroad. He emphasized that the large sums spent on such journeys could be better invested in creating employment opportunities at home.
