Sri Anandpur Sahib (Punjab), May 23, 2025: Punjab's "War Against Drugs" campaign gained further momentum on Thursday as Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains revealed that more than 100 drug traffickers have been arrested in the Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency alone in the past three months.
Speaking at a Drug-Free Awareness March in the village of Bassowal, Minister Bains shared staggering statewide statistics: over 11,000 drug traffickers have been jailed across Punjab within just three months.
The campaign, he emphasized, is not symbolic but a decisive battle to reclaim Punjab from the clutches of the drug menace.
“Our mission is clear—we will not rest until Punjab is completely drug-free,” Bains asserted, drawing loud applause from the attendees.
Public Support Vital to Success
The Minister urged citizens to play a proactive role by reporting drug trafficking activities. He highlighted the government’s confidential tip-off system, which allows individuals to report drug-related information via WhatsApp, ensuring their identity remains protected.
However, Bains also expressed concern over the misuse of the WhatsApp helpline by some individuals, calling such actions "irresponsible" and detrimental to the campaign’s progress.
Commitment to a Drug-Free Punjab
Reaffirming the government’s unwavering resolve, Bains said the administration is committed to freeing every village, town, and city in Punjab from the grip of narcotics.
He called upon community leaders, youth, and elders alike to come forward and contribute to the mission. “This is not just a government campaign; this is a people’s movement,” Bains said.
The event was marked by strong public participation, with slogans and banners reinforcing the message of a drug-free future. The march at Bassowal is one of many such events planned across Punjab under the "War Against Drugs" initiative.
