Massive raid along Sutlej river bank: 24,000 liters of illicit liquor destroyed

Ludhiana (Punjab), May 23, 2025: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor production, a joint excise team conducted a large-scale search operation today along a 6-7 km stretch of the Sutlej River Bank, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Tarsem Chand and AIG Excise SS Chauhan.
The raid was led by AC(X) Inderjeet Singh Nagpal, along with EO Navdeep Singh, EI Sunny Grover, EI Shaveen Jain, EI Gurpreet Singh, EI Harshpinder Singh, EI Ranjit Singh, EI Gurshobh Singh, EI Amaninder Singh, EI Gurdeep Singh, EI Kamaldeep Singh, and supporting staff.
The operation resulted in the destruction of approximately 24,000 liters of lahan (illicit liquor brew), stored in unclaimed plastic tarpaulins, along with the seizure of 81 bottles of illicit liquor, 2 large containers, and 2 big iron drums used for distillation.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating illegal distillation and warned of continued enforcement actions in the region. This operation marks a significant step in curbing the illicit liquor trade along vulnerable riverbank areas.
