New Delhi, June 09, 2025: The President of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) S. Harmeet Singh Kalka today raised very serious concerns over conversions from Sikhism into Christianity in the villages of Punjab.
Addressing a press conference here after holding a meeting with all the members of the DSGMC, S. Kalka said that he had asked all members of Delhi Gurdwara Committee to be aware and keep a check on any attempt of religious conversions in the areas they represents.
General Secretary S. Jagdip Singh Kahlon along with other office bearers and members of DSGMC were also present in the press conference.
Referring to reports, S. Kalka sad, “It is shocking that out of 12,500 villages of Punjab, the Christian committees have been set up in 8,000 villages and large scale conversions are taking place. There are 65,000 Christian preachers working in Punjab
.In such circumstance the role of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is under question for having failed in its role of Dharam parchar. “DSGMC has started Dharam Parchar Lehar in Punjab and in the recent times 2,500 persons have been baptised as Puran Sikhs. Our resources do not match what SGPC has. In my opinion the SGPC should play a proactive larger in bringing back those who are treading a different path,” said S. Kalka
According to S. Kalka, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami could have played important role in checking religious conversions, but sadly the leaders of the party (Shiromani Akali Dal) which he represents is busy in criticising the work done by other Sikh bodies.
Referring to protest outside Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib by leader of Shiromani Akali Dal including S. Paramjit Singh Sarna and S. Manjit Singh G.K, S. Kalka said that in protest was against the maryada of Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib.
The protest was against the government for nominating member in DSGMC so they should have protested outside civil secretariat or the office of director Gurdwara elections, not outside the most revered place – Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib.
He adds that ever since DSGMC came into existence in 1971 and first election took place in 1974 and subsequent elections in 1979, 1995, 2002, 2007, 2013, 2017 and 2021 the members were nominated by the state government.
