PAU ranked 2nd nationwide, tops among State Agricultural Universities in IIRF 2025

Ludhiana (Punjab), June 17, 2025: Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, has reaffirmed its national leadership in agricultural education by clinching the 1st rank among 67 State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) and securing the 2nd position nationwide in the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) 2025.
Among 78 agricultural and horticultural institutions – including ICAR-Deemed Universities, Central Agricultural Universities, and ICAR institutes – PAU stands just behind ICAR-IARI, New Delhi.
These prestigious rankings are based on a rigorous assessment of academic excellence, research output, placements, industry linkages, faculty quality, diversity, and innovation.
PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal described the achievement as a demonstration of PAU’s stature as a national leader in agricultural education and research.
He noted that consistently securing top positions in various national rankings has become a defining feature of the university’s legacy. This recognition reflects the relentless dedication and collective excellence of PAU’s faculty, students, and staff. With a distinguished track record in teaching, pioneering research, and impactful extension work, PAU continues to play a pivotal role in advancing Indian agriculture and strengthening the nation’s food security.
Commenting on PAU’s stellar performance in the IIRF rankings, Dr. Rishi Pal Singh (IAS), Registrar, considered it as a reflection of the university’s commitment to academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and farmer-centric innovation. Dr. M.I.S. Gill, Dean of Postgraduate Studies and a key figure in the ranking process, emphasized that securing the 2nd national position affirms PAU’s clear mission, strong national presence, and forward-looking vision in advancing agriculture and horticulture.
Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) stands distinguished for its legacy of innovation, institutional excellence, and transformative impact. With over 35 departments, six constituent colleges, and a network of 10 regional research stations, PAU has developed over 950 crop varieties making landmark contributions in wheat, rice, cotton, and horticultural crops

The latest IIRF 2025 ranking adds to PAU’s streak of national recognitions, following its top position among SAUs and 3rd rank among all agricultural institutions consecutively in the NIRF 2023 and 2024 by the Ministry of Education.
