Language Dept holds seminar on ‘Importance of Books in Human Life’
Ferozepur, June 30, 2025: A seminar on the theme “Importance of Books in Human Life” was organized by the District Language Office, Ferozepur at the District Library, Ferozepur, under the guidance of the Punjab Government and the directives of the Director, Language Department, Punjab, to promote book culture in contemporary times.
Renowned language scholar Dr. Rameshwar Singh Katara, who attended as the chief speaker, engaged the audience and library students in a thoughtful and meaningful discussion. He emphasised the crucial role of books in the development of human civilisation. Drawing from history and his personal experiences, he shared several insightful anecdotes highlighting how books directly and indirectly shape human destiny and the course of civilisations. Citing the example of the historical manuscript Zafarnama, Dr. Katara illustrated the powerful impact of the written word, stating how it once shook Emperor Aurangzeb to his core.
District Language Officer Dr. Jagdeep Sandhu, in his welcome address, described books as a treasure trove of art, literature, and scientific knowledge. He stressed that books help preserve and transmit centuries of accumulated wisdom from one generation to another. In the digital age, too, books are available in electronic formats, and it is essential to stay connected with literature for the development of a noble personality and responsible citizenship. He also noted that the newly constructed seminar/reading hall at the District Library, Ferozepur, is regularly used for literary activities by the Language Office.
Research Officer Daljeet Singh added vibrancy to the event with his effective stage coordination. A book exhibition was also organised on this occasion, featuring publications from the Punjab Language Department.
Eminent personalities present at the event included storyteller Er. Gurdyal Singh Virk, retired Deputy Director Jaswant Singh, Kehar Singh, poet Sukhdev Bhatti, Education Department official Avtar Singh Puri, lecturer Sarv Shaktiman Singh, and Dr. Harinder Singh. The enthusiastic participation of library students made the event memorable.
