Post Operation Sindoor: Ferozepur drone attack claims second victim after 2 months battle for life
Ferozepur, July 2, 2025: Nearly two months after sustaining severe burn injuries in a Pakistani drone attack, Lakhwinder Singh of Khai Pheme Ki village in Ferozepur district succumbed to his injuries at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana. The 70% burnt victim was undergoing treatment at government expense since the tragic May 9 incident.
The drone attack was part of a broader wave of Pakistani drone incursions on May 7–8, 2025, targeting 26 locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. These followed India’s Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which killed 26 people.
The drone debris crashed into Lakhwinder’s house, sparking a massive fire. His wife, Sukhwinder Kaur, who had suffered 80% burns, died during treatment on May 13, just days after the attack. Lakhwinder had remained in critical condition since then, and was on dialysis, eventually passing away on July 1.
The couple’s son, Jaswant Singh, stayed by his parents’ side during the treatment. This incident marks one of the most tragic civilian losses linked to escalating cross-border tensions in Punjab. The government had borne the medical expenses for both victims.
With Lakhwinder’s death, both husband and wife have now lost their lives due to the drone strike, highlighting the human cost of growing cross-border hostilities.
