Molestation case uncovered through awareness seminar; Teacher arrested
Ferozepur, July 12, 2025: A major molestation case has come to light at a government school in Guruharsahai, Ferozepur, where 12 girl students reported harassment by a teacher. Following an investigation, the teacher and assisting staff have been booked under serious charges on the orders of the Scheduled Caste Commission Chairman, Malkiat Singh Thind.
SSP Ferozepur, in a brief statement, confirmed the arrest of the accused teacher under relevant sections of 74, 79 and 75 – outraging woman’s modesty, sexual harassment of BNS and Section 8 of the POSCO Act following FIR No. 20 at Guruharsahai police station. He stated, “The swift action was possible due to the recent awareness seminar conducted in the school regarding good and bad touch, which empowered students to speak up. Such programs are crucial in preventing such incidents.”
During his visit to the school on Friday, Chairman Singh ordered immediate police action after interacting with the victims and their parents. He also expressed concern over the school’s initial inaction and stressed that such negligence would not be tolerated.
According to officials, the case came to light after a girl student courageously reported the matter through the school’s complaint box. The school principal promptly initiated an internal inquiry and informed the DEO, Manila Arora, and district education authorities, who escalated the case to the Director of Public Instructions (DPI) in Chandigarh, which took immediate cognisance.
Police have begun further investigation, and authorities have assured strict legal action against all involved.
