Chandigarh, July 15, 2025 — The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Chandigarh Unit, has strongly condemned the FIR filed at the Cyber Crime Police Station, Chandigarh, calling it “politically motivated” and aimed at tarnishing the party’s image.
The FIR, lodged by Punjab Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa under Sections 336(4), 356, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, accuses senior AAP leaders, including Harpal Singh Cheema and Aman Arora, of manipulating a video originally posted by Bajwa on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on June 25.
Terming the allegations as “baseless” and “devoid of credible evidence,” AAP alleged that the case is a result of collusion between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress leaders to suppress the rising influence of AAP in Punjab and Chandigarh.
“This FIR is a blatant misuse of state machinery to serve partisan interests and reflects the desperation of traditional parties in the face of AAP’s growing popularity,” said Vikrant A Tanwar, Media In-Charge, AAP Chandigarh. He emphasized that the party has always adhered to transparent and ethical political practices, rejecting any claims of circulating manipulated content.
Calling for the immediate withdrawal of the FIR, the party demanded a fair and impartial review by the authorities, warning that AAP will explore legal remedies against those orchestrating the alleged smear campaign.
“AAP remains committed to serving the people with honesty and accountability, and we will not be intimidated by such politically orchestrated attacks,” the statement concluded.
