Breach in Prison Security: Mobiles, prohibited items recovered from Ferozepur Jail
Ferozepur, July 18, 2025: In a major breach of prison security, Ferozepur Jail authorities recovered several mobile phones from inmates during a special search operation conducted under the Prisons Act 52A and 42. These recoveries once again highlight the growing concern about inmates managing to remain connected with the outside world through prohibited items, defeating the very purpose of imprisonment.
According to the jail authorities, the search operation was carried out between July 11 and July 16, 2025. During this period, five mobile phones, 55 sachets of tobacco, and 19 bundles of bidis were recovered from various barracks and inmates, including notorious criminals and gangsters. Among those from whom phones were seized are Prabhjot Singh, Saurav, Sukhraj Singh, Satpal Singh, Jasvir Singh, Dharamplreet Singh, Abhay and Kuldeep Singh, all of whom are either undertrials or convicted prisoners.
The involvement of notorious gangsters and hardened criminals in using these phones raises serious questions about the security apparatus within the jail.
The recovery of these prohibited items, especially mobile phones, reflects a grave lapse as it allows inmates to stay in touch with their networks outside the prison. Such incidents undermine the primary objective of incarceration, which is to isolate offenders from continuing their criminal activities.
Jail authorities confirmed that separate cases under relevant sections of the Prisons Act have been registered against the inmates involved. However, this incident again brings to light the urgent need for stricter vigilance and more robust technological solutions to curb the smuggling of mobile devices into prisons.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining discipline within the jail and preventing any further breach of security.
