Zira ranked No.1 with 50K population, secures 3rd Spot in Punjab and 68th Nationwide
Ferozepur, July 18, 2025: Zira city in Ferozepur district has brought laurels to Punjab by securing the No. 1 position among cities with a population below 50,000 in the state as per the Swachh Survekshan 2024 results announced by the Government of India on July 17, 2025. Zira has also achieved 3rd position overall among all cities in Punjab and ranked 68th across India.
The survey assessed nearly 4,300 cities nationwide and around 170 cities in Punjab on parameters such as cleanliness, waste collection, waste processing, composting, recycling, public toilets hygiene, road and market cleanliness, sewerage management, public feedback, and awareness.
Sharing the details, Narinder Kumar, Executive Officer, Municipal Council Zira; President Sarbjit Kaur; and Gurpreet Singh Judge informed that Zira scored 9,397 out of 12,500 points and was awarded GFC 1 Star and ODF+ (Open Defecation Free Plus) status for its outstanding performance, surpassing several larger cities.
This achievement is credited to the relentless efforts of the entire sanitation staff and municipal officials, whose hard work and dedication ensured Zira’s top ranking. Local MLA Naresh Kataria, along with the Municipal Council team, worked tirelessly to maintain the city’s cleanliness standards.
Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma congratulated the Zira Municipal Council team and encouraged other urban bodies in the district to follow Zira’s example. ADC (General) Damanjit Singh also praised the staff’s efforts and urged them to continue working with commitment to keep Ferozepur district shining on the map.
Sanitation Superintendent Sukhpal Singh attributed this success to the consistent efforts of every municipal employee, emphasizing community cooperation to maintain this achievement. He further appealed to residents to continue supporting the council to keep Zira at the top.
