Breaking: Mohali Police nab notorious gangster after gunfight; Linked to BKI

Mohali (Punjab), July 21, 2025 – A suspected member of the banned terrorist outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) was injured and arrested after an exchange of fire with police in Chappar Chiri village of Mohali district. Around five rounds were reportedly fired during the encounter.
The accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, a resident of Mandi Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib. SP (D) Saurabh Jindal informed that the accused was wanted in connection with a recent extortion case.
On July 10, a property dealer in Mohali’s Aerocity area had received an extortion call, followed by firing outside his office.
Following the incident, multiple teams including the CIA were constituted on the directions of SSP Mohali to investigate the matter.During the investigation, police arrested three suspects linked to BKI, who revealed Gurpreet Gopi’s involvement during interrogation.
Acting on this input, police traced Gopi while he was riding a motorcycle in Chappar Chiri. Upon being confronted, he allegedly opened fire on the police.
In retaliatory firing, he sustained a bullet injury in his leg, causing him to fall off the bike.
He was immediately apprehended by the police and admitted to a hospital for treatment. So far, four members of this BKI-linked module have been arrested.Initial interrogation has revealed that the suspects were operating on the instructions of Pakistan-based gangster Rinda.
Their names have also surfaced in connection with grenade attacks on police stations and government buildings, though Gopi’s specific role in those incidents remains under investigation.
Police added that Gurpreet Singh Gopi has a criminal history with four previous cases registered against him, including incidents of firing and extortion.He has served time in prison earlier. Officials believe that further interrogation may lead to more significant revelations.
