Anti-rabies vaccination drive launched at all Aam Aadmi Clinics in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, July 24, 2025: The Health Department organizdirectioned an awareness seminar at the Aam Aadmi Clinic in Khai Pheme Ki to educate the public about rabies and its prevention, under the directions of Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajwinder Kaur.
Addressing the gathering, Senior Medical Officer Dr. Raju Chauhan informed that anti-rabies vaccination is now available at all Aam Aadmi Clinics across the district. He highlighted that rabies is a highly dangerous viral disease that can result from the bite of not only dogs but also cats or other animals. Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but it is entirely preventable through timely vaccination.
Deputy Mass Media Officer Ankush Bhandari explained that rabies is primarily transmitted through bites from infected animals and can also spread through direct contact with saliva or licking. He urged pet owners, especially those with dogs, to ensure their pets are vaccinated to prevent the transmission of the disease.
Dr. Chauhan further noted that 99% of rabies cases are linked to dog bites, and free anti-rabies vaccines are being administered at government health facilities. He emphasised the importance of immediate first aid—washing the wound with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes—and seeking prompt medical treatment from the nearest health centre.
Health officials, including Dr. Poonam Jindal, Dr. Ravneet Kaur, Karamjit Kaur (LHV), Amarjeet, Darshan (multi-purpose health workers), and other staff were also present on the occasion.
