Mansa (Punjab), July 28, 2025: In a heartwarming tale of perseverance and grit, three sisters from Budhlada in Punjab’s Mansa district have achieved a remarkable academic milestone by clearing the UGC NET exam held in May 2025.
Daughters of a granthi and a farm labourer, Rimpi Kaur, Beant Kaur, and Hardeep Kaur have set their sights on becoming professors after completing their PhDs.Raised in modest circumstances, the trio belongs to a family where education was never easily accessible.
Their father, Bikkar Singh, serves as a granthi at a local gurdwara, while their mother, Manjit Kaur, works as a farm labourer. Despite financial struggles and social odds, the sisters stayed committed to their dream of higher education.
“We have always been passionate about studying,” said Beant Kaur, who along with her sisters secured impressive national-level ranks. “Even though our parents couldn’t study much, they always motivated us to pursue education with full dedication.”
The girls’ determination has brought joy and pride to their family. “I couldn’t study myself, but seeing my daughters succeed like this fills my heart with happiness I can’t express,” said their father, Bikkar Singh.
Their elder brother, Makhan Singh, had to discontinue his studies due to illness, which further added to the family’s hardships. But the sisters remained undeterred.
With their eyes now set on the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) exam and subsequent PhD, the three hope to one day stand before college classrooms as professors. Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Budhlada, Principal Budh Ram, congratulated the family, calling it “a proud moment for Punjab.”
He added, “It shows how government efforts in education are empowering children from economically weaker backgrounds to excel in both academics and sports.”
The success story of Rimpi, Beant, and Hardeep Kaur stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration — proving that with determination, support, and hard work, no dream is too distant.
