Flood-Hit Punjab: Rahul Gandhi reaches Amritsar, begins visit to flood-hit villages

Amritsar (Punjab), September 15, 2025: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, arrived in Punjab today to assess the flood-hit areas and interact with affected families.
He landed at Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar around 9:30 am, where Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, received him.
Visit Begins from Ghonewal Village
From the airport, Gandhi’s convoy headed straight to Ghonewal village in Amritsar, which recently witnessed severe destruction after a bundh breach. Floodwaters had entered homes and destroyed hundreds of acres of crops. Gandhi met the affected residents, listened to their grievances, and assured them of all possible support.
To Tour Gurdaspur and Pathankot Next
Following Amritsar, Rahul Gandhi will also tour flood-affected areas in Gurdaspur and Pathankot. He is scheduled to visit Gurchak village in Dera Baba Nanak and Makkora Pattan in Dinanagar, where he will interact with farmers and flood-hit families.
Punjab has witnessed massive devastation due to recent floods. As many as 2,097 villages across 23 districts have been affected. Nearly 1.92 lakh hectares of crops have been submerged, and 52 lives have been lost in 15 districts. Gandhi’s visit aims to share the pain of the victims and understand the situation on the ground.
