The event was presided over by the foundation’s chairman, Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, and drew prominent legal luminaries and peace advocates, despite strained relations between India and Pakistan following the Pulwama attack.
Chief guests included Raja Zulqarnain, Advocate Supreme Court and former Secretary, Supreme Court Bar; Mian Ghulamullah Khan Joya, Muqtadar Akhtar Shabbir Khalid Zaman Khan Kakar and Noor Muhammad Kasuri, Chairman of the Pak-India Business Council, among others.
Speakers paid glowing tributes to Bhagat Singh, describing him as a shared hero of India and Pakistan whose message of peace transcended religious boundaries. “Bhagat Singh visited mosques, temples, gurdwaras, and churches to tell people that the foundation of every religion is peace,” said participants, noting that his ideals remain timeless.
During the ceremony, several resolutions were unanimously passed - Urging Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to confer the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, on Bhagat Singh, requesting Pakistan Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif to award him the nation’s highest civilian honor, Nishan-e-Pakistan, demanding Bhagat Singh’s inclusion in school curricula, issuance of commemorative stamps and coins, and naming a major road in his memory, calling for the renaming of Shadman Chowk in Lahore after Bhagat Singh without further delay.
Organizers emphasized that Bhagat Singh’s legacy of peace, justice, and unity must be preserved and promoted across borders for future generations.
