Over a dozen injured as car collides with auto after tyre burst

Gidderbaha (Sri Muktsar Sahib), October 18, 2025: Around 15 people were seriously injured in a major road accident on the Gidderbaha–Malout road near the Markfed plant on Saturday morning. The mishap occurred when a car’s tyre burst, causing it to lose control and crash into an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction.
According to information, Ravinder Kumar, a resident of Sri Ganganagar, was returning home from Amritsar along with his wife Krishna Rani and son Chirag in their Honda Jazz car.
How the accident happened
- Tyre burst led to loss of control: When the car reached near the Markfed plant, its front tyre suddenly burst.
- Crossed divider and hit auto-rickshaw: The car became uncontrollable, crossed the road divider, and collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw coming from the Malout side toward Gidderbaha.
Labourers on their way for cotton picking injured
The passengers in the auto-rickshaw, all residents of village Jandwala (Malout), were on their way to Gidderbaha for cotton picking when the accident occurred.
Injured persons
- Car occupants: Ravinder Kumar, Krishna Rani, and Chirag sustained minor injuries.
- Auto-rickshaw passengers: Auto driver Manga Singh and passengers Arshdeep Kaur, Jyoti, Virpal Kaur, Mandeep Kaur, Paramjit Kaur, Kuldeep Singh, Karamjit Kaur, Sukhdeep Kaur, Kiran Kaur, Pritam Kaur, Satpal Kaur, Charanjit Kaur, Gursewak Singh, and another Paramjit Kaur were seriously injured.
Rescue and treatment
After receiving information, local social welfare organizations — Shri Vivek Ashram, Umeed NGO, and Rahat Foundation — along with 108 ambulance teams, reached the spot and shifted the injured to the Civil Hospital, Gidderbaha.
Duty doctor Dr. Sam Sidhu at the Civil Hospital said that after administering first aid, about 10 critically injured patients were referred to a hospital in Bathinda for advanced treatment. Meanwhile, Gidderbaha police have started investigating the case.
