Tarn Taran (Punjab), October 29, 2025: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu on Tuesday said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is implementing historic reforms to make agriculture profitable and promote allied farming sectors.
Criticizing previous Akali-BJP and Congress regimes, Sandhu said that successive governments had ignored the farmers and livestock keepers of the border district of Tarn Taran, while the AAP government is working to uplift their economic condition through targeted, people-centric policies.
Applauding the Animal Husbandry Department’s initiatives, Sandhu stated that farmers in Tarn Taran are now reaping benefits in dairy farming due to the government’s transparent policies.
He highlighted that special attention is being given to breed improvement in cows and buffaloes to enhance milk production. The government, he said, is providing a direct subsidy of ₹425 per dose of sexed semen to livestock farmers — a major financial relief for rural households.
Speaking on livestock health care, Sandhu said that when Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) spread across Punjab, the Mann-led government promptly acted to protect farmers’ livelihoods. He added that 1.06 lakh doses of LSD vaccine were administered free of cost in Tarn Taran district. Similarly, during April and May, the government vaccinated 100 percent of livestock in the district against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), administering 2,86,135 free doses — saving farmers lakhs of rupees in potential losses.
Sandhu further said that the government’s efforts extend beyond dairy farming, focusing on agricultural diversification to increase farmers’ income. The Animal Husbandry Department, he noted, conducts free monthly training sessions on goat rearing, pig rearing, and poultry farming for farmers and unemployed youth, helping them launch new allied ventures.
He concluded that these initiatives reflect the AAP government’s commitment to genuine, on-ground development rather than hollow promises, ensuring that the benefits of growth reach every farmer in Punjab.
