First Sekhon Indian Air Force marathon held to honour Param Vir Chakra Awardee Flying officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon

Chandigarh, November 2, 2025:The inaugural edition of the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon (Half Marathon) was held across all Air Force Stations on Sunday to mark the 93rd anniversary of the Indian Air Force and to pay tribute to Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, India’s only Param Vir Chakra awardee from the IAF.
At the Base Repair Depot (BRD), Chandigarh, the marathon witnessed enthusiastic participation, with around 550 runners, including Air Force personnel, their families, and civilians from Chandigarh and neighbouring areas. Participants took part in 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km runs, celebrating fitness, discipline, and unity.
Flagging off the event, Air Commodore Nipun Gupta, Air Officer Commanding, BRD Chandigarh, underscored the importance of remembering Flying Officer Sekhon’s supreme sacrifice and exemplary courage during the 1971 Indo-Pak War.
The Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon (SIM-25) symbolises the indomitable spirit and valour of the Indian Air Force while encouraging a culture of fitness and camaraderie among citizens.
